Native Bay is located on beautiful Lake Wissota, a few miles north of
Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. We offer frequently changing dinner, lunch and
lounge menus every day except Mondays, as well as a brunch menu on Saturdays
and Sundays. We also have rental pontoons available for excursions on the lake
and up the picturesque Chippewa River. We have two lakeside decks available for
enjoying a meal or just having a few drinks and taking in the view. During the
warmer months, we also run a tiki bar on our lower deck specially geared
towards the boating crowd.
Our name stems from the desire to promote a
style of cuisine that is local and native to the Upper Midwest. Chef/owner
Nathan Berg (left in photo) procures the overwhelming majority of his
ingredients from local farmers and artisans to give a sense of place to his
menus, support the local economy and, most importantly, ensure that his food is
as fresh and ripe as possible. Additionally, Lounge Manager Rob Kiefer provides
a beer list that focuses heavily on Midwestern microbreweries, reading as a
"best of" list for brews within our region. He also maintains an ever-growing
wine list that is well-varied in terms of both grape varietals and cost.
|
| Chef Berg began
his culinary career as a dishwasher back in his teen years. He worked his way
up through the ranks without any formal culinary training. In 2002, he spent a
formulative season at the Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, where he
cooked for staff and students in addition to spending time in their 200 acres
of organic gardens and working with a local apple orchardist and beekeeper.
Before returning to his hometown to open Native Bay, he was a member of the
kitchen staff at the acclaimed Harvest in Madison, WI. While the techniques
behind his cuisine are based mostly upon culinary traditions from all over the
world, his menus feature an original style that can only be described as
Midwestern, with heavy emphasis on organic produce, freshwater fish, grass-fed
meats, and wild, native selections. Dinner at Native Bay would best be
described as fine dining, but Chef Berg also creates economical lunch, brunch
and lounge menus in an effort to prove that fresh, local, organic food made
from scratch needn't always be expensive. |

The
dining room at Native Bay was designed by Collab Architecture of Menomonie, WI,
to compliment the restaurant's philosophy of using materials that are local
and/or sustainable. The building's original cement block walls were exposed and
sand-blasted, then complimented with unfinished birch. The flooring is a mix of
100% organic wool carpeting and bamboo. The tabletops were custom-built by
Timeless Timber using reclaimed flamed birch from the depths of the Great Lakes
and finished by local artisans at Duncan Creek Woodworks. All of this in a room
with a beautiful view of the lake. The result is a dining room that is elegant
and inspiring, yet comfortable and honest.
If you're in our neck of the
woods, we would love to present you with an incredible dining experience. And
while you're here, please take the time to discover all of the other wonderful
attractions of the Chippewa Falls/Lake Wissota area. See our Links page to
